Improv Your Confidence
One of my favorite things about improv is its power to build confidence in people. In the world of improv, almost anything can be pulled off if you are confident about it.
Last night we were doing scenes that involved different emotions. In the process of helping our teacher construct a list of emotions, one girl misunderstood what we were supposed to be doing. She threw out the word “vantageous” as an emotion as she thought we were just making up fake emotions. Our teacher went with it.
Later in our scene, this girl was told that her character had to act vantageous. Without missing a beat, her character changed and she gave her portrayal of vantageous. Had I not known that she made up the word, I would have thought it was a real emotion by the way she acted on stage.
My point is, feel confident about what you are doing and then get out there and do it. Most of the times others don’t know if its right or wrong. And if you are confident about it, you will convince them its right
